Beware "Free" Seminars and Other Marketing Promotions

Several complaints have been noted regarding "free" seminars on the home buying process. While these may be useful form an education standpoint, be careful not to sign any commitments or pay any fees for "mortgage consultations." Most mortgage brokers do this for free.

If you do attend a seminar and find someone you seem to like, include him or her on your list of poepl to contact when you begin your pre-qualifying and pre-approval process. Don't be suckered into just one because they provide free donuts and seem to be knowledgeable. There are plenty of knowledgeable mortgage brokers who would be happy to work with you in the beginning, just for the chance of getting your home loan in the end.
