Surrendering Original Documents

One tactic of mortgage brokers to keep you from comparison shopping is to retain your original mortgage records like tax returns, W-2s, paystubs, and other documents. Then, it becomes very difficult for you to work with another lender because the first mortgage broker has all of your information.

In the worst cases, consumers have complained that mortgage brokers have actually requested payment from the consumer before returning the original documents. Be extremely careful about surrendering any original documents and you will not get caught in one of these terrible situations.
